Nutrition and physical fitness are like the two oars of a boat. You need the movement of both oars for the boat to move forward.

In this case the movement of the boat represents how your body operates.

Eating nutritional food is essential to survival. However, we live in an age where food is processed and there are a lot of harmful chemicals added to it.

While we may now be able to have foods that last longer and taste better it is very unhealthy. These foods are no longer in their original state. They can cause diseases such as heart disease, stroke, cancer etc.

Ever wondered what it would be like to only have food in it's natural state? We sure would be healthier and less overweight because our bodies would be functioning properly.

Understand prevention is better than cure. It is easier to tweak our diet a bit instead of being sick in the hospital.

Stick To The Basics

While we have to wade through the sea of different types of nutritional food and information we should stick to the basics.

Keep to foods in its natural state as much as possible to get good nutrition. For example, buy fruits from the produce section and not in the cans.

If you eat more natural fruits and vegetables you will be one step closer to being healthier. Exotic fruits are a great way to get your fruits in.

Understand prevention is better than cure. It is easier to tweak our diet a bit instead of being sick in the hospital. It is also important to eat smarter.

The 3 Main Sources of Nutrition

Food is made up of carbohydrates, protein and fat. Each is not only important for physical activity but overall health. In many of our food sources we get traces of each in them. Some more than others.

We are living beings and our body needs nutrients from various food sources in order to sustain itself. Eating a balanced meal is very important as our body uses what is provided by these various food sources to support our muscles, organs, brain and bones.

Let's start with carbohydrates. They are made up of simple and complex carbs. Simple carbs provide a quick burst of energy. Our body then stores the remainder as fat.

Simple Carbs
Healthy
- Fruits
- Milk
Less Healthy
- candies
- Cakes
- White Flour Products
- Soda
- Corn Syrup

On the other hand complex carbs provide more and are made up of whole grains, vegetables, fruits and beans. Our body breaks them down and eventually converts them to glucose or sugar to be used as energy just like simple carbs. Our body uses this energy source when it is needed during the day and not in one quick burst. Therefore there is less fat storage. If you have a choice choose these kind of carbs.

Protein is used to carry oxygen to all the parts of our body and it is used to build muscle. Hence, all the protein shakes taken by weight lifters. Our body converts the protein in food to amino acids which then makes the proteins our body uses to maintain muscles, blood, bones and other organs.

When you think about fats you may think about being overweight. Fats or lipids provide a great source of energy in foods. However, they have more calories in them than carbs or protein. Foods with saturated and trans fats are loaded with high cholesterol. On the other hand foods with unsaturated fats such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats help lower cholesterol. The flip side is that they are high in calories so they should be eaten in abundance.

Nutrition is very important for the human body. The list of foods is just a snap shot of some foods that we know. After a good session of physical activity your body can get a good replenishment from some of these sources. As you can see some foods may fall into more than one nutrional category. This shows that each food does not only come from one nutritional food source.
