Your metabolism is the process by which your body converts food into energy to maintain vital functions. An example of a vital function is food digestion.
Energy is needed to extract and distribute the nutrients to various parts of the body. Others vital functions include controlling body temperature, breathing, contracting muscles and circulating blood.
In it's simplest form you now have a scientific understanding of the word that is used so many times in the health and wellness industry.
However, for those people who want to lose weight this is what you need to know. As your body burns energy or calories you also burn fat. Your body needs and uses this energy for your day to day activities such as walking to the car to a simple task such as typing on the computer.

Build muscle by going to the gym and lifting weights. Our muscles need more energy to maintain itself than fat does. Muscle burns fat. Most guys who have well developed muscular bodies usually have less fat on them. If you have never observed this before take a good look at the next muscular guy you see. Be careful not to stare too much when you see how true it is. Women should not worry about becoming bulky instead they will become toned with a nice figure.
Eat every 2 to 3 hours because your body uses more calories to digest your food. If you don't eat your body will go into a starvation mode where it will start conserving energy resulting in fat storage. Also, eat smaller portions or else your body will use what it can and store the remainder as fat.
Exercise to speed up your metabolism so that you melt fat. The more intense the exercise the more calories you burn. Even after you are finished exercising you will continue to burn calories. You can incorporate intense routines into your workout or just do them by itself. Perform your workouts with enough intensity. You can incorporate burpees, mountain climbers, sprinting, skipping and circuit training with little rest to really burn fat.
Consume certain foods such as spices and green tea. They both have ingredients in them that increase the fat burning process. Spices such as cayenne pepper, ginger or cinnamon just to name a few are great fat burners. Green tea also does the same as the spices.
