What Is Metabolic Resistance Training (MRT)?
Metabolic resistance training is a type of workout that incorporates resistance or weights together with intense movement and little rest in between sets. The key is doing your workout with an intensity that causes your metabolism to continue burning fat after your workout.
Regular cardio which may involve running on a threadmill helps you to lose weight but it takes a longer period than if you used an MRT workout. Weight training is good because it helps you to add muscle which burns fat. However, because this particular type of training is intense with little rest you should use lighter manageable weights.
Advantages of Metabolic Resistance Training
- It burns calories which if consumed in excess will be stored as fat.
- You save on time because your workouts do not need to be long.
- You can perform it at home with little equipment.
- You lose weight and become more toned.
- Your metabolism is sped to continue melting the fat after you workout.

As you can see MRT is a very intense type of exercise. If you are at your peak fitness level then you should do each exercise without any rest in between. However, rest for 45 seconds to a minute after each set.
If you are not as fit as you would like to be then rest for 30 seconds between each exercise.
Either way you will break a sweat and feel your heart pounding during and post workout.
Metabolic resistance training workouts are geared towards the busy individual. Get ready for a challenging fast paced workout that can take half the time it takes to do a slow cardio workout. You have other things to do with your time but you still want to get workouts done during the week to lose weight that you gained.
If you want to know how to lose weight then MRT is the way to go. Engage your body with overall body training to hit all angles and reduce overall body fat.
